Odd Reasons for Breakouts

So, we all know the typical causes of acne, which include a bad diet, hormones, bacteria, stress, etc…

But, there are some stranger and more obscure reasons that not many people are aware of. Allow me to name and explain a few for you, right now.

One reason is hair. Well, not necessarily your hair itself, but the product you put into it. Many people apply leave-in conditioner to their hair when they get out of the shower. When your wet, product-filled hair brushes against your face, it can irritate your skin, causing a breakout. To prevent this or to, at least, cut down on the risk of a breakout, I would suggest tying your hair up in a ponytail so it doesn’t brush up against your face. If you don’t want to do this (sometimes tying up wet hair can damage it) you can use a cloth headband to pull your hair back.

Another reason is your cell phone. This one sounds pretty weird but it actually makes a lot of sense. When you’re talking on the phone, it will usually press up to your cheek. This can press the bacteria down into your face which clogs your pores and instigates an unwanted breakout. There’s a simple solution for this as well. Simply, spray some disinfecting astringent on it once a week to keep it clean. This will help whittle down the risk of a cell phone-related breakout.

The last reason is very hot or very cold water. Either one of these extremes can cause acne because of the sudden shock to the skin. Each temperature can irritate the skin, causing it to break out. The obvious answer to this would be to try and consistently wash your face with lukewarm water. This will be soothing for the skin and will help to keep it clear.

So, those are just a few helpful tips in combating the lesser known reasons for acne. Hopefully, the next time you mysteriously breakout, you’ll understand a little more why that might be.
