High Fructose…Yeah, its Bad

Ok, maybe you’ve seen the commercials about high fructose corn syrup, maybe you haven’t. In case you just sort of stopped listening to the media and how everything is dangerous, this is a big one. High fructose corn syrup is bad bad bad. This stuff is completely devoid of nutrients, extremely sweet and highly addictive. It is packed with “refined” fructose, a substance that is VERY hard for your little body to process.

This stuff is in everything because our food companies know that a spoonful of sugar makes everything go down. This stuff is slowly and silently deteriorating our health. High fructose corn syrup is raising hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis.

This stuff is so insidious because it breaks down differently than glucose or fructose or even natural sugars. Like fructose, glucose is a simple sugar. It is taken from the breakdown of carbs, and glucose is a primary source of ready energy. BUT, Fructose, on the other hand, is more rapidly metabolized in the liver, and it overflows the liver and increases fat storage in the liver. A fat liver will lead to heart problems. Plus, a fat liver? Did you see SuperSizeMe? It also messes with your insulin levels, insulin controls weight loss.
