Vick’s Vapo Rub for Cystic Pimples?

I have always been marginally interested in the treatment of cystic pimples. An old boyfriend of mine had these types of big, mean, ugly zits. They were HUGE, he would commonly say that they felt like lit cigarettes being put out on his skin!! OUCH. I always felt so bad for him, with a little bit of research, it is clear that there are many different types and causes of cystic zits like this. I want to stress that I’m not a doctor!! Go to your dermatologist if/when you want real answers.

Ok. I have been buried in information–when you’re looking up facts on the internet, you really have to dig. BUT, it looks like Vick’s Vapo Rub actually works for some people. Now, from what I have been reading, it is going to shrink the size of the cystic pimple. It will also serve to cut the redness and irritation. I don’t know if it will be able to CURE cystic pimples. However, there are some instances of Vick’s being able to shrink ’em.

The active ingredients in Vick’s Vapo Rub is as follows:

4.8% Camphor: Camphor is a cough suppressant/nasal decongestant and a topical analgesic. (Analgesics are painkillers.)

2.6% Menthol: Menthol is more of the same, a cough suppressant, nasal decongestant & topical analgesic—-more painkillers.

1.2% Eucalyptus oil: This stuff is interesting, it has been used for a very long time, it can be used as a cough suppressant & nasal decongestant. But, it also has pharmaceutical and antiseptic properties. However, both camphor and oil of eucalyptus and also came up with anti-inflammatory, antiseptic qualities.

The INactive ingredients are as follows: cedarleaf oil, nutmeg oil, special petrolatum, thymol, and turpentine oil.

So, those are the key components of the Vick’s Vapo Rub. I’m still researching, but it kind of sounds like a bunch of painkillers and all natural antiseptics. Weird. I am currently looking into those inactive ingredients, the cedarleaf, etc. Turpentine oil? CANNOT be great. lol. But hey, I’m still researching!

I have also found that most people saw the best results when they were using the Vick’s over an extended period of time–most commonly it was a week to two weeks. So, if you’re feeling adventurous, take it for a spin. BE CAREFUL to not slather yourself in this goop. You will not only smell like an old lady, you could be clogging up the surrounding pores. Do be careful and very precise, give yourself a chance to reap the rewards! If you aren’t careful you will end up a smelly, slimy, pimply mess.

Good luck!
